Polyethylene terephthalate filled polytetrafluoroethylene is a modified, semi-crystalline polyester, usually known with the acronym PET – SL (Solid Lubricant). Main properties of this material are mostly comparable to PET ones, in addition a better wear resistance and a lower friction coefficient are achieved, with linked better performance in sliding properties.
PET-SL keeps its dimensions very well, even under the changing influence of weather and climate conditions, thanks to its incredibly low water and moisture absorption.
The main characteristics of PET-SL is its unquestionable wear resistance. Thanks to PTFE (Teflon) filling, its resistance is highly increased. In fact this material is most suitable for sliding applications, with remarkable benefits against slip-stick effect, a very common case in construction equipment industry.
PET-SL assures a good service between 0 and +110°C, although that you must pay attention to hydrolysis, which begins at +60°C.
Another strength point achieved by PTFE filling, is the reduced crystallinity of PET; so it becomes less fragile and less subject to be chipped.
Polyethylene terephthalate filled PTFE is resistant to many chemical, such as: aliphatic and aromatic carbon hydrogen, ether, esther and aldheide as well as to oils and greases. Inorganic acids, caustic solutions, basis, hot water and steam could attack it.
PET-SL results suitable to come into contact to foodstuff and it complies EC 1935/2004, EC 2023/2006, EU 10/2011 and FDA.
PET-SL is usually available in sheets and rods, with a short range of dimensions. Tubes are usually available upon requests and with minimum lot sizes.
